Family Guide — Musandam with Kids
Musandam is one of the best family destinations in the Gulf. Calm waters, short travel times, and activities for all ages make it ideal for a trip with children. Here's everything you need to know.
Is Musandam Safe for Kids?
Yes. Musandam is considered one of the safest parts of Oman, and the touring areas around Khasab are family-friendly. Here are the safety measures we have in place:
- Coast Guard approved dhows with all required safety equipment
- Life jackets provided for children and adults (all sizes)
- Captains with years of experience in family tours
- First-aid kits on board every vessel
- Calm, sheltered fjords — not open ocean sailing
- Snorkeling stops only in shallow, protected bays
Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the water at all times. We brief all families on safety before departure.
Age Guidance for Activities
| Activity | Minimum Age | Notes |
|---|
| Dhow Cruise | All ages | Babies welcome. Shaded seating, calm waters, short half-day option available. |
| Snorkeling | 8+ years | Must be comfortable in water. Under-8s can swim in shallow bays with life jackets. |
| Mountain Safari | 6+ years | Bumpy roads on some routes. Younger children may find long drives uncomfortable. |
| Overnight Camping | 6+ years | Sleeping on a dhow or beach camp. Not ideal for toddlers. |
| Kayaking | 8+ years | Tandem kayaks available with a parent. |
What Facilities Are Available?
Our dhows are equipped for families. Here's what's included:
- Life jackets — All sizes, including toddler and child sizes. Provided on every trip.
- Shaded seating — Covered deck areas with seating for families who need a break from the sun.
- Basic toilet facilities — Available on most dhows. Simple but functional.
- Fresh water & refreshments — Drinking water, soft drinks, and snacks on board.
- Snorkeling gear — Masks and fins for adults and older children. Let us know if you need child-sized equipment.
Note: Facilities are basic compared to a hotel — this is a traditional dhow experience. If your family needs specific amenities, let us know in advance.

Tips for Families Visiting Musandam
- Start early. Morning tours mean calmer seas, fewer crowds, and happier kids. Departure is usually around 8–9 AM.
- Pack light but smart.Bring sunscreen, hats, water shoes, and snacks. You don't need much — we provide the rest.
- Bring activities for the drive. The Dubai to Khasab drive is 3–4 hours. Tablets, audiobooks, and car games make a big difference.
- Choose a half-day for young kids. A full day on the water can be tiring for under-5s. Half-day cruises give you the experience without the meltdown.
- Let us know about allergies or needs. We can adjust food, timing, and activities for your family.
- Book a private charter for maximum flexibility. If your family runs on its own schedule, a private charter lets you set the pace.
