Our Story
We're a small team based in Khasab, Musandam. We run dhow cruises, mountain safaris, and snorkeling trips. That's it. We've been doing it since 2014, and we're not trying to be anything we're not.
Captain Ahmad spent 15 years driving other people's boats. He'd watch tour companies fly guests in from Dubai on a bus, squeeze 30 people onto a dhow, serve lukewarm food, and rush through the fjords like they were checking boxes. The guests would leave before noon.
In 2014, he saved enough to buy a secondhand dhow and started taking out small groups — friends of friends at first. The first trip was six people, a cooler of drinks, and Ahmad's cousin helping with the ropes. One of those guests left a Google review that said "this is the real Musandam." That review still gets us bookings.
Now we run three dhows and a 4x4 for mountain safaris. We've taken over 2,000 guests out on the water. We're still small — we don't have a resort, we don't have a gift shop, and we're not on every travel platform. But every tour is led by a local captain who actually lives here, and that makes a difference you can feel.
Ahmad checks wind speed, swell height, and visibility. If conditions aren't right, we reschedule. We've cancelled trips in the past because the sea was too rough — we'd rather lose a booking than risk anyone's safety.
Check fuel, test the engine, load fresh water, ice, fruit, and snorkeling gear. The crew wipes down the seating and makes sure the cushions are dry. We've learned the hard way that wet cushions on a 4-hour cruise make for unhappy guests.
We meet guests at Khasab Marina or pick them up from their hotel. First thing we do is hand them Omani coffee and dates. Then we walk through safety basics, hand out reef-safe sunscreen, and ask about any dietary restrictions or mobility issues. It's personal — we want to know if someone's a nervous swimmer before we get to the snorkeling spot.
Depending on the tour, we head into Khor Ash Sham, stop at dolphin spots, anchor near Telegraph Island for snorkeling, or cruise along the coast. Ahmad points out landmarks, tells stories about the area, and lets guests set the pace. Some want to swim for an hour. Some just want to sit with a book. Both are fine.
Grilled fish, rice, salad, and fresh fruit — cooked on the dhow by Ahmad or the crew. The fish is usually caught that morning by local fishermen at Khasab port. It doesn't get fresher than this.
Return to Khasab. We help guests with photos, exchange WhatsApp numbers, and ask for honest feedback. If something wasn't right, we want to know — and we fix it for the next trip.
Most Musandam tours are sold by companies in Dubai. They bus guests to the border, hand them off to a local operator, and take a cut. You never meet the person actually running your trip.
We're in Khasab. Our office is a 5-minute walk from the marina. If the weather changes, we adjust the itinerary — not a middleman in Dubai. If you want to add a snorkeling stop or leave early, we say yes. We know which fishermen caught good-sized hamour this morning and which part of the fjord has the clearest water today.
That said, we're not perfect. We're a small team. We don't have luxury resorts or private islands. We can't control the weather — sometimes the sea is rough and we have to reschedule. We're honest about that upfront.
Three people. One office. Every tour run by someone who lives here.

Founder & Captain
Ahmad grew up in Khasab, spent his teens on his father's dhow, and got his captain's license at 22. He ran tours for other companies for years before starting Musandam Direct in 2014 because he was tired of watching visitors get rushed through the fjords on overcrowded boats. He still captains most of our full-day trips and insists on cooking the fish himself.

Guide
Khalid's the one who remembers your name, your kids' names, and that you don't like olives. He's been guiding in Musandam since 2016 and speaks English, Arabic, Hindi, and enough Urdu to chat with visiting families. He grew up in Khasab and knows which fjords have the best snorkeling on any given day — he checks the water conditions every morning before guests arrive.

Office Manager
Fatima handles everything from bookings to last-minute changes when someone forgets their passport at the hotel. She's the reason our guests say we're responsive — she answers WhatsApp messages at 10pm if someone's panicking about visa requirements. She also manages our partnerships with local families who host overnight guests.
We're not going to pretend we're saving the planet. But we care about the place we live and work, so we do what we can.
We carry reef-safe sunscreen on every trip and give it to guests before snorkeling. Regular sunscreen kills coral. It's a small thing, but it matters.
Every piece of waste comes back to shore with us. We use reusable water containers and skip the plastic bottles. On calm days, we also pick up any floating debris we spot in the fjords — it's not part of the tour, we just do it.
Everyone on our team is from Khasab. We buy food from the local souq and partner with Omani families for overnight stays. When tourists spend money here, the money stays here.
We donate a portion of every booking to the Khasab school library. It started because Khalid's nephew's school had almost no books. Now it's something we do every year.
