The short answer: it depends on your nationality and residency status. Here's the full breakdown.
Musandam is an Omani exclave, separated from the rest of Oman by UAE territory. Even though you're driving through the UAE to reach it, you're crossing an international border and need to meet Oman's entry requirements.
No visa needed. Show your GCC national ID at the border. Free entry.
No visa needed. Show your Emirates ID or passport. Free entry.
Citizens of these countries get free visa on arrival:
Just show your passport at immigration. No fee, no paperwork.
Most other nationalities (including India, Pakistan, Philippines, Egypt, Jordan, etc.) pay approximately AED 47 for a 10-day visa on arrival.
Requirements: Valid passport (6+ months validity), return ticket or onward travel proof, and hotel booking or tour confirmation.
Being a UAE resident doesn't automatically change your visa requirements. Oman looks at your passport nationality, not your UAE residency status. A Pakistani resident gets the same visa treatment as a Pakistani tourist.
However, some nationalities with UAE residency get additional privileges depending on their profession. The rules change occasionally, so always verify before traveling.
Most visa-on-arrival stamps are single-entry. This means once you leave Oman, you'll need a new visa to re-enter. If you're doing a day trip and returning to the UAE, this is fine. But if you plan multiple trips in a short period, consider applying for a multi-entry e-visa in advance.
For a typical day trip, expect to pay around AED 82 per person in border fees (AED 35 UAE exit + AED 47 Oman visa). Families of four would pay roughly AED 328 just in border fees.
You can apply for an Oman e-visa in advance through the Royal Oman Police website. This is recommended if:
The e-visa process typically takes 1-3 business days. Apply at least a week before your planned trip. The website can be slow — be patient.
Children under 10 are typically exempt from Oman visa fees. Children 10 and above pay the same as adults. All children need their own passport regardless of age.
